Job description

Lumina Arts Foundation is seeking an innovative and strategic Senior Curator to lead our modern and contemporary art program in New York City. The successful candidate will design transformative exhibitions, oversee scholarly research, and cultivate relationships with artists, lenders, and international institutions.

In addition to program development, this role will contribute to acquisitions discussions, catalogs, public programs, and education outreach, ensuring rigorous scholarship and broad audience engagement.

Responsibility

  • Develop and manage exhibition concepts for modern and contemporary art from inception to installation.
  • Lead scholarly research, write wall texts, and produce catalogs.
  • Oversee loan agreements, conservation, installation logistics, and budget management.
  • Build and sustain relationships with artists, galleries, collectors, lenders, and partner institutions.
  • Collaborate with education and public programming teams to design engaging programs.
  • Manage the curatorial team, interns, and project timelines; provide mentorship.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, forums, and international networks to secure partnerships and opportunities.

Qualification

  • Master's degree in Art History, Fine Arts, or related field; PhD preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of curatorial or arts administration experience in museums, galleries, or nonprofit settings.
  • Strong knowledge of modern and contemporary art, artists, and collecting practices.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly.
  • Proven project management, budgeting, and team leadership abilities.
  • Experience coordinating with lenders, conservators, artists, and vendors; strong negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency with cataloging databases, digital platforms, and social media strategy; English required; additional languages a plus.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
