Join a leading contemporary arts institution in New York City as the Fine Arts Program Director. You will shape curatorial strategy, develop innovative exhibitions, and lead community outreach to broaden access to contemporary and classical works.
We seek a visionary leader with strong relationships across artist communities, galleries, donors, and educational partners. This role blends artistic leadership with operational excellence in a dynamic gallery environment.
Responsibility
- Lead the development and execution of the annual exhibition calendar, including thematic exhibitions, installations, and public programs.
- Collaborate with artists, lenders, collectors, curators, and institutions to secure high-profile works and loans.
- Oversee program budgeting, fundraising initiatives, sponsorships, and grant reporting to support ambitious programming.
- Plan and supervise installation, conservation, audience safety, and gallery operations for all exhibitions.
- Develop public programs, education outreach, artist talks, and community engagement to broaden access to the arts.
- Cultivate partnerships with schools, universities, and cultural organizations to expand reach and impact.
- Lead marketing, PR, social media strategy, and audience development to maximize attendance and press coverage.
- Manage a small team of curatorial assistants, registrars, and interns; mentor staff and foster a collaborative culture.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Art History, or a related field; master's preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in galleries, museums, or arts administration with a proven curatorial track record
- Strong project management, budgeting, and fundraising skills, including grant writing
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, and proven ability to build relationships with artists, lenders, donors, and partners
- Knowledge of exhibition design, conservation basics, and installation best practices
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends for openings and events
- Proficiency with gallery management software and MS Office; knowledge of CRM and donor databases is a plus
