Join Pacific Crest Forestry Solutions as a Forestry Field Specialist in Portland, OR. This full-time role combines field data collection, silviculture planning, and stakeholder collaboration to support sustainable forest management across private and public lands.
In this position you will collect stand data, conduct timber inventories, implement silvicultural treatments, and work closely with the GIS team to translate data into actionable forest plans. You’ll operate in diverse field conditions, maintain strict safety standards, and contribute to project delivery on schedule and within budget.
Responsibility
- Lead and conduct forest inventories and stand examinations to support timber valuation and management planning.
- Perform timber cruising, volume estimation, and growth modeling.
- Implement silvicultural treatments (thinning, pruning, regeneration surveys) per approved plans.
- Collect, analyze, and report field data; maintain accurate records in GIS/databases.
- Collaborate with GIS team to map stands, harvest blocks, and access routes.
- Ensure compliance with safety policies, environmental regulations, and best practices in field operations.
- Support project managers with scheduling, vendor coordination, and field logistics.
- Communicate findings to stakeholders and prepare clear field reports.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
- 3+ years of forestry field experience; Pacific Northwest experience preferred.
- Proficiency in GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS) and data collection tools (GPS, data loggers).
- Experience with timber cruising and stand examination procedures.
- Strong knowledge of silvicultural practices and species typical to the Pacific Northwest.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; ability to hike in rugged terrain under varying conditions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to produce clear reports for diverse stakeholders.
