We are seeking a results-oriented Forestry Project Engineer to lead field operations, planning, and stakeholder collaboration in the Vancouver region.
As a key member of our Natural Resources team, you will combine technical forestry expertise with project management to optimize harvest planning, reforestation, and compliance with provincial regulations. Responsibility
- Lead and coordinate timber harvest planning and silvicultural treatments in designated FMUs, ensuring safety, legality, and environmental integrity.
- Conduct field surveys, stand exams, and stocking assessments; collect data for growth models and annual operating plans.
- Develop and monitor project schedules, budgets, and milestones; track performance against KPIs.
- Prepare harvest plans, reforestation plans, and environmental impact assessments in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Utilize GIS tools to map stands, harvest blocks, road networks, and access plans; analyze data to support decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with BC Forest Acts, Wildlife Act, and company safety standards; lead incident investigations when needed.
- Engage with Indigenous communities, local authorities, contractors, and clients to communicate progress and manage expectations.
- Prepare technical reports, permit applications, and progress updates for leadership and regulators.
Qualification
- University degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or related field. A registered Professional Forester (RPF) in British Columbia is preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of field forestry or project management experience in government or private sector.
- Strong knowledge of BC forestry legislation, environmental regulations, and sustainable harvesting practices.
- Proficiency with GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS) and data management; experience with forestry software is a plus.
- Excellent communication, report writing, and stakeholder engagement skills; ability to work cross-functionally across teams.
- Field safety training (e.g., WHMIS, OSSA) and valid driver's license; comfortable with remote or variable field conditions.
- Fluency in English; bilingual abilities an asset.
- Proven problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
