We are seeking a seasoned Industrial Relations Manager to lead strategic labor relations across our Chicago operations. This role partners with HR, safety, and operations to foster a constructive work environment while upholding compliance and company values.
You will influence policy, negotiate with labor representatives, and implement programs that improve engagement, productivity, and risk mitigation. This is a high-visibility role ideal for a proactive leader who can balance business needs with workforce wellbeing.
Responsibility
- Provide strategic leadership for industrial relations and collective bargaining activities across North American operations.
- Manage grievance procedures, investigations, and disciplinary matters in alignment with policy and legal requirements.
- Advise senior leadership on labor law compliance and risk mitigation strategies.
- Lead negotiations with unions and workforce representatives to secure favorable yet fair outcomes.
- Develop and implement IR programs that enhance employee relations, engagement, and safety culture.
- Collaborate with HR, operations, and safety to align business goals with people strategies and operational realities.
Qualification
- Bachelor degree in HR, Law, or related field; master or JD preferred.
- 5+ years in industrial or labor relations, preferably in a unionized manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of labor laws including NLRA and applicable regulations.
- Proven negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills with a track record of successful outcomes.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership capabilities.
- Experience with HRIS and data analytics; proficiency in Excel and reporting tools.
- Willingness to travel up to 25 percent as needed.
