Job description

We are seeking a results-driven Industrial Relations Manager to lead employer-employee relations for a leading manufacturing group in Chicago. This role drives strategic labor relations, policy development, and collaborative labor management initiatives to improve productivity and maintain compliant, equitable workplaces.

The successful candidate will partner with union representatives, HR and operations to negotiate collective bargaining agreements, resolve workplace disputes, and implement best practices in risk management, training, and compliance.

Responsibility

  • Develop and execute labor relations strategy aligned with business goals, including collective bargaining and contract administration.
  • Lead contract negotiations and administer labor agreements to ensure compliance and performance targets are met.
  • Provide guidance on disciplinary matters, grievance handling, and dispute resolution with a focus on timely, fair outcomes.
  • Collaborate with HR, safety, and operations to implement policies that support a safe and productive workplace.
  • Monitor and analyze labor metrics, trends, and regulatory changes to inform strategy and risk management.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with union leadership and key stakeholders across the organization.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Industrial Relations, Law, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in labor relations within manufacturing or heavy industry.
  • Strong knowledge of National Labor Relations Act and applicable state and federal labor laws.
  • Proven track record of successful negotiations and dispute resolution.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into actionable strategies.
  • Travel up to 20% may be required to meet with unions and site leaders.
