Job description

Join ApexChem Industries, a leader in sustainable chemical production. We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Chemical Process Engineer to drive the design, optimization, and scale-up of critical manufacturing processes. This role combines technical rigor with strategic collaboration across R&D, operations, and safety to deliver safe, efficient, and compliant production.

As a key member of the process engineering team, you will shape process development from concept through commercial production, mentor junior engineers, and lead cross-functional initiatives that improve yield, energy efficiency, and environmental performance.

Responsibility

  • Lead the design, scale-up, and optimization of chemical processes from pilot to full-scale production, ensuring safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and validate process models and simulations using Aspen Plus, HYSYS, or CHEMCAD; perform rigorous mass and energy balances.
  • Collaborate with R&D, operations, and maintenance to implement process improvements, debottlenecking, and capital projects.
  • Lead P&ID development, equipment specifications, process control strategies, and instrumentation requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards; manage risk assessments and MOC processes.
  • Drive process safety management, incident investigations, and root-cause analysis; promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers; set project milestones, budgets, and timelines; report status to stakeholders.

Qualification

  • BS in Chemical Engineering; MS preferred; professional engineer certification a plus.
  • 5+ years in chemical/process engineering within manufacturing or chemicals sectors.
  • Strong proficiency with process simulators: Aspen Plus, HYSYS, CHEMCAD; experience with steady-state and dynamic simulations.
  • Hands-on experience with reactors, distillation, heat exchangers, separation processes, and process control.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety and regulatory frameworks (OSHA, REACH, EPA); experience with risk assessments and MOC processes.
  • Excellent data analysis, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Project management experience; track record delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Proactive, results-driven, and committed to continuous improvement and quality.
