Harborview Academy seeks a proactive Licensed Guidance Counselor to empower students in their academic, personal, and career development. The ideal candidate will collaborate across departments to build a supportive, inclusive environment that promotes resilience, college readiness, and lifelong success.
As a member of our Student Services team, you’ll provide individual and group counseling, contribute to the guidance curriculum, and partner with families and external resources to remove barriers to success.
Responsibility
- Provide individual and small-group counseling to students on academic planning, personal development, and life skills.
- Develop and deliver a comprehensive guidance curriculum aligned with state standards.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to identify and address barriers to student success.
- Conduct college and career exploration activities, workshops, and FAFSA/college application support.
- Plan and implement crisis intervention and safety protocols as part of the student support team.
- Maintain accurate records, monitor progress, and use data to improve programs.
- Coordinate referrals to external mental health resources and community partners when needed.
Qualification
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Education with a School Counseling certification/license (NY state preferred).
- Proven experience as a guidance counselor in a K-12 setting (2+ years preferred).
- Current licensure/certification and knowledge of relevant laws and ethical standards.
- Strong interpersonal, listening, and problem-solving skills with a student-centered approach.
- Ability to design and implement a data-informed guidance program and track outcomes.
- Experience collaborating with diverse student populations and families; commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Excellent communication and crisis-management abilities; proficient with technology and student information systems.
