Join Portland Family Birth Center, a patient-centered, evidence-informed practice delivering compassionate prenatal, birth, and postpartum care. We are seeking a Licensed Midwife (CNM or CPM) to provide full-spectrum midwifery services to a diverse community.
In this full-time role, you will lead comprehensive care from early pregnancy through postpartum, support home birth and birth center clients, collaborate with obstetricians and nurses, and ensure safety and respect at every stage of the birth journey. Requirements: active midwifery license in Oregon, NRP/ACLS, current BLS, excellent communication and empathy, cultural humility, and commitment to evidence-based practice. Experience with lactation support and EMR is preferred.
Responsibility
- Provide comprehensive midwifery care throughout the childbirth continuum (antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum).
- Lead and support births in a birth center setting, with transfer protocols to hospital care when needed.
- Perform routine prenatal assessments, risk assessment, and develop individualized care plans.
- Support lactation and newborn care, including breastfeeding counseling and newborn assessment.
- Educate clients on informed decision-making, pain management options, and birth planning.
- Document care in the EMR, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and community outreach to promote healthy pregnancies.
- Mentor student midwives or junior staff as appropriate.
Qualification
- Current Oregon midwifery license (CNM or CPM) with active certification.
- Minimum 2+ years of hands-on midwifery experience.
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based obstetric care and updated guidelines.
- Excellent communication, empathy, and teamwork; ability to work with diverse populations.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team; strong critical thinking.
- Proficiency with EMR systems and prenatal record-keeping; solid computer skills.
- NRP/ACLS and BLS certifications current; ability to handle high-stress situations calmly.
- Commitment to safety, informed consent, and patient-centered care.
