Responsibility
- Provide high-quality prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care as a licensed midwife, including risk assessment and individualized care planning.
- Attend and support births in home, birth center, or hospital settings, based on client plans and clinical indications.
- Develop birth plans in collaboration with clients, families, and the care team, respecting informed choice and cultural preferences.
- Conduct routine and targeted clinical assessments, monitor fetal well-being, and respond to complications with appropriate escalation.
- Educate clients on informed consent, pain management options, lactation, newborn care, and postpartum self-care.
- Collaborate with obstetricians, nurses, doulas, and other providers to coordinate care and ensure seamless transitions across settings.
- Document all care thoroughly in the electronic medical record and participate in quality improvement and ongoing education.
- Provide emotional and practical support to families, including breastfeeding support and connections to community resources.
Qualification
- Current license to practice midwifery in Ontario with registration with the College of Midwives of Ontario (CMO) or eligible for registration.
- Minimum 2+ years of clinical midwifery experience with demonstrated competency across prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care.
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based obstetric care, risk assessment, and management of common complications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; culturally safe, trauma-informed, and client-centered approach.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, on-call environment, with reliable outside-of-regular-hours availability.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records, documentation, and professional report writing; commitment to continuous learning.
- CPR/BLS certification and current obstetric emergency training; willingness to maintain up-to-date continuing education.
- Fluent English; French or other languages are a plus; commitment to equity and inclusion.
