Job description
Join Apex Freight Solutions as a Logistics Operations Manager in Chicago. This role leads cross-functional logistics initiatives, optimizing transportation, warehousing, and inventory to deliver exceptional service and cost efficiency.
As a key member of the operations leadership team, you will design and implement scalable processes, collaborate with carriers, 3PL partners, and internal departments, and leverage data-driven insights to improve performance metrics.
Responsibility
- Oversee end-to-end logistics operations including inbound, outbound, warehousing, and distribution.
- Design and optimize transportation networks, routes, and carrier relationships to minimize cost and transit times.
- Manage inventory control, cycle counts, demand planning, and accuracy across multiple facilities.
- Lead continuous improvement projects using data analytics (KPI dashboards, root-cause analysis).
- Coordinate with procurement, warehouse, IT, and customer service to ensure on-time, accurate order fulfillment.
- Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and security standards; manage risk in cross-border logistics where applicable.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team; recruit, coach, and mentor logistics staff.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
- 5+ years of logistics operations experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong proficiency with WMS/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Oracle NetSuite).
- Data-driven mindset with advanced Excel, analytics, and ability to translate metrics into action.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven project management and process improvement capabilities (lean, six sigma a plus).
- Knowledge of transportation regulations, safety standards, and import/export compliance.
- Professional certifications such as CSCP, CPIM, or equivalent are a plus.
