As a Marine Electrician, you will install, test, and maintain electrical systems across a variety of vessels. Responsibilities include diagnosing faults, replacing wiring and components, servicing control panels, power distribution gear, lighting, and navigation electronics. You will read and interpret electrical diagrams and schematics, plan preventive maintenance, and collaborate with engineers and deck crews to minimize downtime and keep vessels compliant with safety standards.
This role requires a proactive problem-solver with hands-on experience in marine electrical work and a commitment to safety. You will work across shifts, respond to on-call maintenance, and participate in ongoing training to stay up-to-date with evolving technologies and regulatory requirements. Responsibility
- Inspect, install, test, and maintain electrical systems on a range of marine vessels, including power distribution, lighting, propulsion controls, and navigation electronics.
- Diagnose faults using electrical testing tools, interpret schematics, and implement timely repairs to minimize downtime.
- Install and wire new systems, replace components, and ensure proper grounding, bonding, and safety practices.
- Maintain electrical safety equipment, emergency power systems, battery banks, backup generators, and circuit breakers per regulatory standards.
- Perform preventive maintenance, keep detailed service records, and comply with maritime safety and environmental regulations.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers, ship's crew, and managers to plan maintenance windows and ensure continuous vessel readiness.
- Support commissioning, sea trials, and retrofits with rigorous quality control and documentation.
- Adhere to health and safety policies, participate in risk assessments, and maintain clean, organized workspaces on dock or aboard.
Qualification
- Trade qualification as a Marine Electrician or equivalent electrical engineering certification; apprenticeship or technical diploma preferred.
- Proven experience working on marine electrical systems, power distribution, and control panels; familiarity with AC/DC systems on vessels.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals; proficient in troubleshooting with testing equipment (multimeters, insulation testers, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of marine safety standards and compliance (e.g., SOLAS, IEC standards, ABYC guidelines as applicable).
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills; ability to work rotating shifts and respond to urgent maintenance needs.
- Physical capability to perform field service tasks, climb ladders, and work in marine environments; willingness to travel as needed.
- Certifications such as STCW, OSHA, or other regional maritime safety certifications are advantageous.
