Job description

Join Aurora Quant Research, a leading mathematics and data science firm in the Pacific Northwest, focused on solving complex real-world problems through rigorous theory and scalable technology.

We are seeking a highly skilled Mathematician to join our Research & Development team. The candidate will work on cutting-edge modeling, numerical methods, and algorithm design that informs product strategy and client solutions.

In this role, you will apply advanced mathematics to model, analyze, and solve complex problems across finance, optimization, and data-driven analytics. You will collaborate with software engineers and data scientists to translate theory into robust, scalable solutions.

Responsibility

  • Conduct advanced mathematical research and develop rigorous models for problems in optimization, stochastic processes, numerical analysis, and data-driven analytics.
  • Design, implement, and optimize algorithms and numerical methods; build scalable simulations and prototypes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with software engineers, data scientists, and product teams to translate theory into production-ready solutions.
  • Analyze experimental results, validate models against real-world data, and refine assumptions accordingly.
  • Communicate complex mathematical concepts to non-technical stakeholders through clear reports and presentations.
  • Mentor junior researchers and contribute to scholarly output, internal knowledge-sharing, and recruitment.

Qualification

  • PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field; or equivalent research experience.
  • Strong publications in peer-reviewed venues; track record of research impact.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, MATLAB, and scientific computing libraries; experience with Julia is a plus.
  • Solid expertise in numerical analysis, optimization, probability, stochastic processes, or statistical learning.
  • Strong programming fundamentals, version control (Git), and software development practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to explain complex math to non-experts.
  • Experience with data-driven modeling and building production-ready algorithms.
