NovaQuant Research Group is seeking a Mathematics Research Scientist to join our interdisciplinary team in Boston, MA. This role emphasizes rigorous mathematical modeling, theoretical analysis, and collaborative problem solving across finance, technology, and science domains.
You will develop and validate mathematical models, contribute to publications, and translate complex theory into actionable insights for product teams and strategic initiatives.
Responsibility
- Develop and validate mathematical models for complex systems across finance, technology, and science.
- Design experiments, run simulations, and interpret results to inform decision making.
- Derive theoretical insights, proofs, and algorithms; contribute to peer reviewed publications.
- Implement numerical methods and optimization techniques using Python and R.
- Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to translate theory into practical solutions.
- Communicate findings clearly to technical and non technical stakeholders; prepare written reports and presentations.
- Mentor junior researchers and contribute to grant writing and project planning.
Qualification
- PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field (or masters with a strong research track).
- Strong background in mathematical modeling, probability, statistics, numerical analysis, and optimization.
- Proficiency in Python and/or R; experience with numerical libraries (NumPy, SciPy) and optimization libraries (cvxpy, scipy.optimize).
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and publish results; a solid portfolio or publications are expected.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to present complex ideas to diverse audiences.
- Experience with LaTeX, reproducible research practices, and version control (Git).
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across interdisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities.
