Join ingenium Advance Sdn Bhd as a Mechanical & Electrical Resident Engineer / Inspector of Work IOW and play a pivotal on-site role in delivering high-quality M&E installations across our projects in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. This full-time position requires a hands-on, results-driven professional who can bridge design intent with field execution.

As the on-site representative of the engineering team, you will ensure that mechanical and electrical works are installed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and Malaysian standards. You will witness tests, review submittals, monitor workmanship, supervise subcontractors, and maintain meticulous documentation for QA/QC and project handover. You will work closely with civil, structural, and MEP colleagues to resolve technical issues, manage non-conformances, and keep the project on schedule and within budget.

Key responsibilities include inspecting installations, coordinating testing and commissioning activities, managing IOW records, and delivering clear progress reports to the project manager and client stakeholders. You will also support safety compliance, participate in design reviews as needed, and contribute to value engineering opportunities while preserving quality and risk controls.

Responsibility

  • Conduct on-site inspections of mechanical and electrical works to verify compliance with design drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Act as the Resident Engineer / IOW, witnessing and recording tests, commissioning activities, and certificate of progress/acceptance documentation.
  • Review shop drawings, method statements, and material submittals; coordinate with contractors and suppliers.
  • Monitor quality, safety, and progress; identify non-conformities and drive timely corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with project team to ensure site activities align with construction schedules and budget constraints.
  • Prepare daily progress reports, site diaries, inspection reports, and IOW handover packages for clients and stakeholders.
  • Interface with civil, structural, MEP teams, and third-party inspectors to resolve technical issues.
  • Advise on value engineering opportunities while maintaining compliance and risk management.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in on-site engineering, inspection, or IOW roles on construction projects (Malaysia preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of M&E systems, construction methods, and relevant codes (MS, IEC, Malaysian Standards).
  • Proven ability to read and interpret drawings, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills; fluent in English; knowledge of Malay is a plus.
  • Ability to coordinate with multi-discipline teams and manage quality assurance processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Excel analytics).
