Job description

Join Aurora Mining Group, a leading operator in sustainable mineral extraction in Australia. We are seeking a highly skilled Mining Engineer to optimize open pit and underground operations, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and drive performance across the mine planning lifecycle.

In this role, you will collaborate with geotechnical, geology, and production teams to develop and review designs, schedules, and sequencing; perform risk assessments; and implement data-driven improvements that reduce cost and increase reliability. You will be based in Perth with occasional site visits to regional operations.

Responsibility

  • Optimize mine designs and production schedules (short-term and long-term) and support feasibility studies.
  • Develop and review plans for open pit and underground operations, including sequencing and pit optimization.
  • Perform geotechnical and rock mechanics analyses to inform design and safety decisions.
  • Lead data analysis and modeling efforts using Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight, and MICROMINE to improve planning accuracy.
  • Collaborate with geology, surveying, and production teams to ensure accurate data, cost control, and schedule adherence.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, identify bottlenecks, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, safety standards, and permit requirements are met across all stages of mining activities.
  • Provide technical leadership for capital projects and optimization programs.

Qualification

  • Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent; professional accreditation preferred (e.g., RPEQ/engineer registration).
  • Minimum 5 years of related mining experience with open pit and/or underground operations.
  • Strong proficiency in mine planning software (Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight, MICROMINE) and data analytics.
  • Solid knowledge of geotechnical, rock mechanics, sequencing, and scheduling principles.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely, manage risk, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Willingness to travel to site locations and relocate to Perth if needed; valid work rights in Australia.
  • Fluent in English with strong report writing and presentation skills.
