Job description
Shape Optics Technologies Pte Ltd is seeking a skilled Optical Engineer to help grow our market presence, support our customers, and strengthen our technical initiatives. This full-time role is based in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, and offers opportunities to work on cutting-edge optical designs and laser systems across a range of industries, including industrial, medical, and consumer applications. You will be part of a collaborative team focused on high-precision engineering, rigorous testing, and delivering robust optical solutions to customers worldwide.
As an Optical Engineer, you will translate customer needs into practical optical designs, develop performance specifications, and contribute to the full product lifecycle from concept to production. The role requires hands-on experimentation, analytical thinking, and strong communication to align with R&D, manufacturing, and field service teams. We value proactive problem-solvers who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are eager to advance the state of the art in optics and laser technology.
In this role, you will design optical components and assemblies, lead alignment and testing efforts, and establish metrology procedures to ensure repeatability and quality. You will participate in design reviews, document specifications, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. If you are passionate about optics, lasers, and delivering reliable, customer-focused solutions, we want to hear from you.
Responsibility
- Design and analyze optical components and assemblies using Zemax OpticStudio, CODE V, and MATLAB to meet performance and cost targets.
- Lead optical alignment, integration, and testing of prototypes; develop test plans, collect and interpret data, and report results to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to ensure optical designs are manufacturable and robust in production.
- Develop and validate optical metrology procedures (interferometry, beam profiling, power/energy measurements) and implement quality controls.
- Support customers with technical inquiries, troubleshooting, and field service as needed; create clear technical documentation and training materials.
- Contribute to product roadmaps by translating customer feedback and market needs into concrete specifications and improvements.
- Maintain proper design documentation, version control, and compliance with relevant safety and industry standards.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in optical design, laser systems, alignment, and packaging.
- Proficiency with optical design tools (Zemax OpticStudio, CODE V) and data analysis with MATLAB or Python.
- Strong knowledge of metrology methods (interferometry, beam profiler, power/energy measurements) and optical testing.
- Experience with optical coatings, thermal management, and mechanical integration for precision optics.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills; ability to adapt to a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, specifications, and contribute to design reviews; willingness to travel for customer support if needed.
