Aurora Theatre Collective, a vibrant nonprofit performing arts organization in New York City, invites applications for the role of Program Director. This leadership position combines artistic leadership with strategic operations to develop engaging seasons, nurture artist relationships, and expand community access to high quality theatre and performance works.
As Program Director, you will collaborate with curators, directors, and partners to design and implement artistic programs, manage budgets, and drive audience growth. The role demands a passion for equity, diversity, and inclusion, and a proven ability to translate vision into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.
Responsibility
- Lead artistic planning and season development in collaboration with curators and directors
- Oversee program budgets, scheduling, venue logistics, and operational planning
- Develop and manage grant proposals, fundraising strategies, and donor relations
- Recruit, cast, and collaborate with artists, directors, designers, and stage management teams
- Build community partnerships, education/outreach programs, and audience development initiatives
- Monitor program impact through data, metrics, and qualitative feedback; prepare regular reports for leadership
- Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with venues, artists, and vendors
- Lead inclusive programming that reflects diverse voices and communities
Qualification
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Arts Administration, Theatre, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in performing arts management or producing
- Proven track record of managing annual budgets up to $3M and leading multi-project programs
- Strong fundraising abilities, grant writing, and donor cultivation skills
- Excellent collaboration, communication, leadership, and negotiation capabilities
- Knowledge of equity, diversity, inclusion principles and community engagement best practices
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
- Experience with education programs, community outreach, and audience development
