Job description
NTU Engineering invites applications for a Research Fellow position focused on ultrafast fiber lasers and advanced nonlinear optics. This role blends cutting-edge experimental physics with artificial intelligence techniques to push the frontiers of fiber-laser sources and their applications in science and industry. You will join a dynamic, collaborative research team at Nanyang Technological University, contributing to high-impact publications, conference presentations, and student mentoring.
As a Research Fellow, you will design and execute experiments on ultrafast fiber laser systems, develop novel nonlinear optical techniques, and model laser dynamics. You will work with interdisciplinary teams spanning photonics, materials science, and AI-enabled data analysis. Responsibilities include experiments, data acquisition, firmware and control software development, and the interpretation of results to optimize laser performance and stability. You will have opportunities to co-author high-profile papers, contribute to grant proposals, and mentor junior researchers and doctoral students. The position emphasizes independent initiative, rigorous scientific communication, and a passion for solving complex photonics challenges.
Key strengths for success include hands-on laboratory experience with ultrafast laser sources, proficiency in optical characterization, familiarity with fiber optics, and fluency in programming for data processing (e.g., Python, MATLAB). A strong record of collaborative research, problem solving, and scientific writing is expected. This is an ideal opportunity for researchers who enjoy bridging fundamental optics with practical applications in a leading engineering university setting.
You will have access to state-of-the-art laboratories at NTU, including laser systems, optical diagnostics, clean rooms, and high-performance computing resources for data analysis and simulations. The position offers a supportive environment with training on grant writing, presenting at seminars, and opportunities to work with international collaborators.
