Responsibility

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students on academic planning, college and career readiness, and personal development.
  • Develop and implement school-wide guidance curricula aligned with state standards and school goals.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to identify and address barriers to student success.
  • Coordinate college admissions guidance, testing strategies, and post-secondary planning for high school students.
  • Conduct crisis assessment and intervention following district protocols, ensuring student safety and wellbeing.
  • Maintain thorough documentation in the student information system and ensure confidentiality in accordance with FERPA.
  • Facilitate referrals to community resources and partner with external agencies for enrichment opportunities.
  • Monitor and assess program outcomes, using data to continuously improve counseling services.

Qualification

  • Master's degree in Counseling, School Counseling, Educational Psychology, or a closely related field.
  • Current valid school counselor certification/license in New York or eligibility to obtain it.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a school counseling or student services role (preferably in diverse urban settings).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills with students, families, and staff.
  • Knowledge of career assessment tools, college application processes, and FAFSA/financial aid basics.
  • Experience with crisis intervention and mental health awareness, with a calm and empathetic approach.
  • Familiarity with safeguarding and confidentiality regulations (FERPA) and data privacy.
  • Proficiency with student information systems, databases, and office software; data-driven mindset.
