Vertex Design Studio is seeking a Senior Architect to lead urban design initiatives in New York City. This full-time position is ideal for a proactive, design-forward professional who can shepherd complex projects from concept through construction while maintaining rigorous quality and schedule standards.
As a member of our collaboration-driven practice, you will work with multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, and engage clients to translate ambitious ideas into built environments that respond to dense urban contexts.
Responsibility
- Lead schematic and design development for urban architecture projects, balancing aesthetics, technical feasibility, and client goals.
- Coordinate with consultants, engineers, and contractors to ensure integrated deliverables and performance.
- Manage project documentation, BIM models (Revit), and construction drawings across all phases.
- Guide design reviews, presentations, and client meetings, articulating design intent clearly.
- Mentor junior designers, review work, and foster a collaborative design culture.
- Ensure compliance with local codes, zoning, accessibility, and sustainability requirements.
- Oversee project scheduling, budgeting, and risk management to deliver on time and on budget.
- Represent the firm in public meetings, competitions, and marketing materials when required.
Qualification
- Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited school; US licensure as a Project Architect or Architect is preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience in architecture and urban design, with a compelling portfolio of complex projects.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino/SketchUp, and visualization tools (3ds Max or similar).
- In-depth knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, accessibility standards, and sustainability practices.
- Strong design caliber with a talent for storytelling and client presentations.
- Excellent collaboration, communication, and mentoring skills for multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with project management, budgeting, and contract administration.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and manage multiple priorities.
