We are seeking a Senior Archivist to lead both digital and physical archives, ensuring rigorous governance, metadata quality, and preservation planning. In this role, you will partner with curators, IT, and records management teams to steward sensitive collections, implement metadata standards, and ensure long-term access for researchers and stakeholders. Responsibility
- Lead the appraisal and accessioning of physical and digital collections, determining preservation actions and access priorities.
- Develop and implement metadata schemas (e.g., Dublin Core, EAD, MARC) to improve searchability and interoperability.
- Oversee digital preservation workflows and file format risk assessments for long-term access.
- Coordinate with curators, researchers, IT, and records management for consistent standards and workflows.
- Manage archival storage, security, and disaster planning to protect critical assets.
- Contribute to policy development, compliance, and audits related to archival practices.
- Mentor junior staff and interns, promoting professional development and best practices.
Qualification
- Master's degree in Library Science, Archive Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of archival experience, including digital preservation and metadata creation.
- Hands-on experience with ArchivesSpace, AtoM, or other archival management systems.
- Strong knowledge of metadata standards (Dublin Core, EAD, METS, MARC) and digital file formats.
- Experience with digitization workflows, OCR, and preservation planning.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with IT, curatorial teams, and external partners.
- Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, privacy, and ethical handling of sensitive materials.
