Job description

NovaWave Broadcasting is seeking a talented Senior Broadcast Engineer to join our dynamic Los Angeles-based team. You will oversee live productions, manage the broadcast infrastructure, and ensure on-air quality from planning through delivery. This role offers the opportunity to shape high-profile projects and innovate with cutting-edge gear in a fast-paced studio environment.

As a hands-on leader, you will collaborate with producers, IT, and engineering peers to implement robust workflows, minimize outages, and drive continuous improvement across all broadcast operations.

Responsibility

  • Oversee and troubleshoot all live broadcast operations, including master control, ingest, playout, and streaming to multiple platforms.
  • Configure, maintain, and upgrade broadcast gear such as routing switchers, servers, encoders/decoders, and automation systems.
  • Plan and execute live productions ensuring on-air quality, compliance with standards, and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with producers, directors, and IT to design efficient workflows and documentation for operations.
  • Lead incident response, perform root-cause analysis, and implement preventive measures to minimize outages.
  • Monitor audio and video quality, graphics, and captioning; coordinate QC processes with the graphics and media teams.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation on procedures, maintenance schedules, inventory, and vendor relationships.
  • Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with vendors for maintenance, upgrades, and project work.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent practical experience considered.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in live broadcast environments, with a track record of on-air reliability.
  • Strong knowledge of video signal flow, routing, control room operations, and broadcast automation/playout systems.
  • Proficiency with IP-based broadcasting, SMPTE 2110, SDI, NDI, RTMP, and related standards.
  • Experience with newsroom workflows, graphics systems, audio mixing, and loudness management.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, ability to work under pressure, and strong cross-functional communication.
  • Willingness to lead, mentor, and collaborate across teams; project management and vendor coordination skills.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours and adapt to live event schedules.
