Job description

Lumina Media Group, a leading broadcaster delivering high-quality television and streaming content to millions of viewers, is seeking a Senior Broadcast Engineer to join our engineering team in Burbank, CA.

As a Senior Broadcast Engineer, you will design, install, monitor, and maintain complex broadcast infrastructures across on-premise and cloud-based environments to ensure flawless delivery of live and on-demand content.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the planning, design, and deployment of broadcast systems including video routing, master control, newsroom/automation, and playout infrastructure.
  • Engineer and maintain IP-based workflows (SMPTE ST 2110, SMPTE 2022-6/7, NMOS, NDI) and traditional SDI paths.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues across encoders, decoders, codecs (H.264/H.265), transcoding, and delivery pipelines.
  • Own uptime and reliability by implementing preventative maintenance, incident response, RCA, and change management processes.
  • Collaborate with IT, security, and vendor teams to ensure robust, scalable, and secure broadcast operations.
  • Develop and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans for continuous service during outages.
  • Drive automation and efficiency through monitoring, logging, and orchestration tools while supporting production teams during live events.

Responsibility

  • Lead the planning, design, and deployment of broadcast systems and automation.
  • Operate and maintain IP video workflows, including SMPTE 2110 and NMOS.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot broadcast paths, codecs, and streaming ingest/export.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and incident response for all critical facilities.
  • Collaborate with IT, vendors, and production to ensure seamless operations.
  • Develop DR/BCP plans and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Advocate for automation to improve reliability and efficiency.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related field; equivalent practical experience accepted.
  • 5+ years in broadcast engineering in live or near-live environments.
  • Proficiency with IP-based video workflows (SMPTE 2110, NMOS), SDI, NDI, and video codecs.
  • Experience with broadcast automation systems and video processing pipelines.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of IT networking (QoS, VLANs) and security best practices; familiarity with cloud streaming is a plus.
