Lumina Media Group, a leading broadcaster delivering high-quality television and streaming content to millions of viewers, is seeking a Senior Broadcast Engineer to join our engineering team in Burbank, CA.
As a Senior Broadcast Engineer, you will design, install, monitor, and maintain complex broadcast infrastructures across on-premise and cloud-based environments to ensure flawless delivery of live and on-demand content.
What you'll do:
- Lead the planning, design, and deployment of broadcast systems including video routing, master control, newsroom/automation, and playout infrastructure.
- Engineer and maintain IP-based workflows (SMPTE ST 2110, SMPTE 2022-6/7, NMOS, NDI) and traditional SDI paths.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues across encoders, decoders, codecs (H.264/H.265), transcoding, and delivery pipelines.
- Own uptime and reliability by implementing preventative maintenance, incident response, RCA, and change management processes.
- Collaborate with IT, security, and vendor teams to ensure robust, scalable, and secure broadcast operations.
- Develop and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans for continuous service during outages.
- Drive automation and efficiency through monitoring, logging, and orchestration tools while supporting production teams during live events.
Responsibility
- Lead the planning, design, and deployment of broadcast systems and automation.
- Operate and maintain IP video workflows, including SMPTE 2110 and NMOS.
- Monitor and troubleshoot broadcast paths, codecs, and streaming ingest/export.
- Perform preventative maintenance and incident response for all critical facilities.
- Collaborate with IT, vendors, and production to ensure seamless operations.
- Develop DR/BCP plans and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Advocate for automation to improve reliability and efficiency.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related field; equivalent practical experience accepted.
- 5+ years in broadcast engineering in live or near-live environments.
- Proficiency with IP-based video workflows (SMPTE 2110, NMOS), SDI, NDI, and video codecs.
- Experience with broadcast automation systems and video processing pipelines.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and project management skills.
- Knowledge of IT networking (QoS, VLANs) and security best practices; familiarity with cloud streaming is a plus.
