Aurora Media Group is seeking a Senior Broadcast Engineer to lead the technical operations for live production, studio, and field broadcasts in the Los Angeles area. You will own the integrity, reliability, and evolution of our on-air infrastructure, from master control to remote OB vans.
As a senior member of the engineering team, youβll design, configure, and maintain high-performance broadcast systems that support multi-camera productions, ingest, playout, and distribution across platforms.
Weβre seeking a proactive problem-solver who can collaborate with producers, editors, and IT to deliver exceptional on-air quality, redundancy, and scalability.
Responsibility
- Lead the setup, operation, and ongoing maintenance of all broadcast systems for live and taped content, ensuring highest uptime.
- Configure video routers, switchers, audio consoles, IFB/intercom, and related signal routing with precision and documentation.
- Monitor and troubleshoot on-air faults, implementing rapid, safe resolutions to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with producers, editors, IT, and network teams to optimize signal flow and compliance with standards (SMPTE, EBU).
- Oversee OB vans and satellite feeds, coordinating remote production logistics and field engineering support.
- Implement redundancy, failover, and disaster recovery plans for all critical workflow components.
- Maintain asset inventories, create standard operating procedures, and mentor junior engineers.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on broadcast engineering experience in live television, master control, or OB/remote production.
- Deep knowledge of SDI, IP-based workflows (SMPTE 2110, NMOS), video/audio routing, and broadcast technology standards.
- Hands-on experience with major equipment brands (Ross Video, Grass Valley, Blackmagic, Evertz) and related control systems.
- Strong troubleshooting, incident response, and documentation skills; ability to work under pressure during live events.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and vendor management abilities; willingness to lead as a technical mentor.
- Flexibility to work on-call rotations, evenings, weekends, and travel for remote productions as needed.
