Job description

NovaStream Media is seeking a Senior Broadcast Engineer to join our LA-based engineering team. This role ensures world-class reliability for live broadcasts, playout, and digital streaming across multiple platforms. You will own end-to-end technical delivery in fast-paced studio environments, lead IP/SDI-based workflows, and collaborate with production, IT, and operations teams.

What you’ll do: architecture and maintenance of master control rooms, live production systems, routers, encoders/decoders, and ingest/playout pipelines; implement redundancy and disaster recovery; troubleshoot complex broadcast issues under tight SLAs; support IP-based workflows (SMPTE 2110/2022) and cloud playout; participate in capacity planning, system upgrades, and vendor management; mentor junior engineers and document processes; ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.

Responsibility

  • Own and operate live broadcast systems, master control, and playout pipelines to ensure uninterrupted programming.
  • Design, install, configure, and maintain video routers, switchers, encoders/decoders, and ingest systems.
  • Monitor signal integrity, automate test patterns, and respond to outages with minimal downtime.
  • Lead IP-based workflow implementations (SMPTE 2110) and cloud/playout integrations.
  • Coordinate with production teams for premieres, feeds, and remote broadcasts.
  • Manage redundancy, disaster recovery, and on-call support for 24/7 operations.
  • Document procedures, provide mentoring, and uphold broadcast quality standards.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum 5 years in broadcast engineering or live production environments.
  • Strong knowledge of IP video, SDI, video routing, automation systems, and broadcast software (ingest/transfer, playout).
  • Experience with SMPTE standards (2110/2022) and IP networking (QoS, multicast, VLANs).
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues under pressure; strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • On-call availability, willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
