VividWave Broadcasting is seeking a Senior Broadcast Engineer in Los Angeles, CA to lead live and taped production operations. You will optimize IP workflows, oversee SDI/NDI delivery, automate playout, and ensure top-tier signal quality across platforms. Responsibility
- Design, deploy, and maintain broadcast infrastructure (SDI, IP video, NDI, and cloud-based playout) to ensure reliability and scalability.
- Own monitoring, error detection, and incident response to minimize downtime during live and on-demand content.
- Lead automation initiatives for ingest, rundown, transcoding, and playout workflows using industry-standard tools.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and IT teams to implement new formats, codecs, and rights-management requirements.
- Manage vendor relationships, budgets, and project timelines for capital improvements and upgrades.
- Document architectures, standard operating procedures, and disaster recovery plans.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide hands-on training to broadcast operators.
- Stay current with broadcasting trends (IP, cloud, 4K/8K workflows) and advocate best-practice standards.
Qualification
- Bachelor's in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field; equivalent experience considered.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in live broadcast operations and technical leadership.
- Proficiency with SDI, SMPTE standards, IP video (SRT, RTMP/RTSP), NDI, and cloud-based playout platforms.
- Experience with automation, monitoring, and control systems (e.g., SCADA-like dashboards, asset management).
- Solid scripting or automation skills (Python, Bash) and familiarity with control-room IT environments.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights or weekends for live events.
