Job description
Join ApexChem Engineering Solutions, a leading innovator in chemical process design and sustainability. We are seeking a results-driven Senior Chemical Engineer to join our Houston-based team and drive groundbreaking projects from concept to deployment.
This role blends hands-on process development with strategic collaboration across R&D, operations, and safety teams to deliver robust, scalable solutions for the energy, petrochemical, and specialty chemicals sectors.
Responsibility
- Lead and optimize chemical process designs from concept through scale-up, including mass and energy balances.
- Develop and validate process simulations using Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, CHEMCAD, or equivalent tools.
- Drive process safety, hazard analysis, and risk mitigation in line with industry standards (HAZOP, LOPA).
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance to optimize reliability, throughput, and energy efficiency.
- Lead pilot plant testing, data collection, and DOE studies to support scale-up decisions.
- Prepare process flow diagrams, P&IDs, equipment specs, and capital cost estimates.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to our knowledge base and best practices.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (Master's preferred); PE license is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in chemical/process engineering, preferably in petrochemical, refining, or specialty chemicals.
- Proficiency with process design and simulation tools (Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, CHEMCAD); MATLAB or Python for data analysis is a plus.
- Strong understanding of mass and energy balances, thermodynamics, and reaction kinetics.
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to convey complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement; willingness to travel up to 20% as needed.
