Job description
NovaCatalyst Technologies is seeking a Senior Chemical Process Engineer to join our Houston-based team. This role focuses on the design, optimization, and safe operation of complex petrochemical and specialty chemical processes. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, energy-efficient solutions that meet regulatory and safety standards.
As a senior engineer, you will lead process design studies, develop and validate process models, and drive continuous improvement across the lifecycle of major projects. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and can communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
We offer a competitive compensation package, comprehensive benefits, flexible work arrangements, and opportunities for advanced professional growth in a market-leading organization.
Responsibility
- Lead process engineering activities for new and existing facilities from concept through commissioning and startup.
- Develop and validate process models using Aspen Plus/HYSYS; optimize energy use, yield, and throughputs.
- Design and specify unit operations equipment (distillation, heat exchangers, reactors) and create PFDs and P&IDs.
- Conduct safety analyses (HAZOPs, LOPA) and ensure compliance with PSM/IEC 61511 standards.
- Collaborate with process, mechanical, electrical, and commissioning teams to execute projects on schedule and within budget.
- Analyze process data, perform root-cause investigations, and implement data-driven improvements.
- Mentor junior engineers and prepare technical documentation, owner specifications, and design reviews.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering; Master’s preferred; PE license is a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on chemical/process engineering experience in petrochemical, refining, or specialty chemicals.
- Proficiency with process simulation tools (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, ChemCAD) and CFD basics.
- Strong knowledge of distillation, reaction design, heat and mass transfer, and process safety (PSM).
- Experience with PFDs/P&IDs, HAZOPs, change management, and equipment design basics.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project-management skills; ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% as needed for project delivery.
