Beacon Chronicle is seeking a seasoned Senior City Desk Reporter to join our award-winning newsroom in New York City. You will own enterprise investigations, chase breaking news, and tell compelling, human-centered stories that inform and engage a diverse audience. This role requires sharp reporting, meticulous fact-checking, and a collaborative approach to storytelling across print, web, and social platforms.
Responsibility
- Develop and report enterprise and breaking news stories on major city-wide issues.
- Produce accurate, engaging copy for web, print, and social platforms under tight deadlines.
- Build and maintain a robust network of sources; conduct interviews, document research, and verify facts.
- Collaborate with editors, photographers, and data reporters to craft multi-format stories with slideshows, video, and interactive graphics.
- Mentor junior reporters and contribute to newsroom training and best practices.
- Ensure adherence to ethical journalism standards and accuracy in all published content.
- Assist with SEO optimization, audience engagement, and analytics to grow reach and impact.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field; or equivalent newsroom experience.
- 8+ years of reporting experience in a fast-paced newsroom, with a strong portfolio of enterprise stories.
- Exceptional writing, editing, storytelling, and editorial judgment.
- Experience with data journalism, public records requests, and investigative methods.
- Proficiency in AP style, fact-checking, and newsroom ethics; strong accuracy under deadline pressure.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and source-building skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed for breaking news.
- Proficiency with digital storytelling tools, CMS, and basic SEO and social media optimization.
