Atlas Media Group is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior News Reporter to join our editorial team in New York City. You will helm enterprise reporting, collaborate across desks, and lead investigative projects that inform, inspire, and drive meaningful public dialogue. Responsibility
- Develop and lead enterprise stories and investigations that push beyond the surface, coordinating with editors, photographers, and data journalists to produce multi-platform reporting.
- Conduct high-stakes interviews, verify facts through deep sourcing, and ensure accuracy through rigorous editing and fact-checking processes.
- Build and maintain a diverse network of sources across communities, institutions, and government to generate original story ideas.
- Plan and execute investigative projects with clear timelines, breaking news aptitude, and strong newsroom collaboration to meet tight deadlines.
- Write compelling, clear, and concise copy in AP style for web, print, and broadcast, while mentoring junior reporters on storytelling best practices.
- Collaborate with editors and visual journalists to develop data-driven narratives, interactive features, and compelling visuals that enhance storytelling.
- Lead coverage strategy discussions, pitch innovative angles, and contribute to editorial planning to expand audience reach and engagement.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Minimum 5 years of professional reporting experience, with demonstrated enterprise or investigative work.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills; strong ethical standards and commitment to accuracy.
- Proficiency in data journalism, research methods, and the ability to translate complex information into accessible narratives.
- Strong interview techniques, source development, and ability to manage multiple projects under deadlines.
- Experience with digital publishing, CMS platforms, social media strategies, and multimedia storytelling.
- Familiarity with NYC/regional coverage and a track record of building trusted sources within diverse communities.
