Job description
NovaTech Systems is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our design team in Austin, TX. We specialize in high-efficiency power electronics, embedded control systems, and advanced test instrumentation for automotive, aerospace, and industrial customers. This role blends hands-on circuit design with system-level thinking to deliver reliable, scalable electrical solutions.
As a key member of the hardware team, you will own the design from concept through validation, collaborating with firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to ensure products meet performance, cost, and schedule targets. The role emphasizes practical problem-solving, rigorous documentation, and a commitment to quality.
What you will do is build robust power stages, develop control algorithms, and validate designs through simulation and prototyping. You will also mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvements that accelerate time-to-market.
We offer a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits package, and the opportunity to impact a growing portfolio of energy-efficient products.
Responsibility
- Lead the design and optimization of power electronics circuits, including converters, motor drives, and protection schemes.
- Develop and validate analog and digital control loops using MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE, and LTspice.
- Design robust PCB layouts for high-current, high-frequency environments with EMI/EMC considerations.
- Own component selection, supplier evaluation, and procurement interfacing to ensure performance and cost targets.
- Plan and execute test plans, debugging, and qualification for automotive-grade or industrial-grade requirements.
- Collaborate with firmware and software teams to integrate embedded controllers and sensors.
- Prepare technical documentation, design reviews, and risk assessments to support product development lifecycle.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in power electronics, analog/digital circuit design, and PCB layout.
- Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice or PSpice, and Altium or Cadence for schematic capture and layout.
- Strong understanding of control theory, feedback loops, EMI/EMC, and thermal management.
- Experience with instrumentation, test rigs, data analysis, and verification methodology.
- Familiarity with automotive or industrial standards (ASIL/IEC 61000, IATF 16949) is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- U.S. work authorization or equivalent; ability to travel up to 15% as needed.
