GridMinds Energy is seeking a Senior Electrical Power Engineer to join our growing team in Houston. This role focuses on design, analysis, and optimization of electrical power systems across transmission, distribution, and industrial facilities. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, safe, and code-compliant solutions for complex energy projects.
As a senior professional, you will mentor engineers, manage project scopes, and drive technical excellence from concept through commissioning. The position offers growth opportunities in new energy integration, grid modernization, and high-performance electrical design.
Responsibility
- Lead and oversee electrical power system design for utility-scale and industrial projects, including transmission, substation, and distribution networks.
- Perform protection, control, and SCADA system design; specify protective relays, PLCs, and automation equipment.
- Conduct power system studies (load flow, short-circuit/arc-flash, stability) using ETAP, PowerFactory, PSCAD, or equivalent tools.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE standards, NERC CIP, and applicable local codes; review drawings, specs, and commissioning plans.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and risk; coordinate with clients, EPC contractors, and suppliers; mentor junior engineers.
- Lead safety, quality, and reliability initiatives; perform risk assessments and develop mitigation plans.
- Support field commissioning, startup activities, and issue resolution at live sites.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's preferred; PE/license is a plus.
- 8+ years of experience in electrical power engineering for utility, industrial, or renewable projects.
- Strong knowledge of power systems, protective relaying, switchgear, transformers, and substations.
- Proficiency with ETAP, PSCAD, PowerFactory, or similar software; AutoCAD or BIM experience.
- Familiarity with NEC, IEEE standards, NERC CIP; arc flash awareness and safety practices.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills; proven client-facing experience.
- Ability to travel up to 20% as needed and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
