Lumina Grid Solutions is seeking a Senior Electrical Power Engineer to join our growing power systems team in Austin, TX. This role offers the opportunity to lead critical grid-scale projects, influence design decisions, and work with a collaborative, safety-focused engineering culture.
As a senior member of the electrical power team, you will design, analyze, and deliver reliable power systems solutions for utilities, large industrial facilities, and renewable integration projects.
What you will do
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality electrical power system designs from concept through commissioning. Prepare and review technical documents, ensure code compliance, and support project risk management.
Responsibility
- Lead electrical power system design for utility-scale and industrial projects, from concept through commissioning.
- Perform load flow, short-circuit, arc flash, and protection coordination studies using ETAP, SKM, and PowerFactory.
- Develop and review single-line diagrams, switching orders, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications.
- Coordinate with civil, mechanical, and control teams, vendors, and clients to ensure alignment on technical requirements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC) and industry best practices; drive quality and safety deliverables.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers; assist in project planning and risk assessment.
- Support project management activities including schedule, cost estimation, and procurement planning.
- Assist commissioning, startup, and site acceptance tests; troubleshoot and resolve field issues.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master’s preferred. PE license strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical power systems design, protection, and project delivery.
- Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, PowerFactory; experience with PLS-CADD and AutoCAD.
- Strong understanding of protection coordination, relay settings, HV/MV equipment, and switchgear.
- Knowledge of IEEE standards, NEC, NESC; familiarity with interconnection and grid code requirements.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and client-facing skills; ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
- Willingness to travel as needed and adapt to fast-paced project environments.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills and a proactive, safety-first mindset.
