NovaGrid Energy is seeking a Senior Electrical Power Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team in Houston. You will lead the design, analysis, and delivery of safe, reliable, and efficient electrical power systems for utility scale and industrial projects. This role blends deep technical expertise with practical project leadership, offering a clear path to impact and advancement.
In this position, you will collaborate with clients, utilities, and equipment vendors to ensure compliant, high-performance power systems from concept through commissioning. You will mentor junior engineers, drive technical excellence, and contribute to the growth of our energy solutions portfolio in North America.
Responsibility
- Lead electrical power systems design for utility scale and industrial projects, ensuring performance, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Perform and supervise load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, and reliability analyses using ETAP, PSS/E, MATLAB/Simulink, and related tools.
- Develop and review protective relay schemes and coordination studies for HV and LV substations.
- Create and manage project work plans, schedules, budgets, and deliverables in collaboration with clients and EPC partners.
- Coordinate with utilities, equipment vendors, and construction teams to support procurement, installation, and commissioning activities.
- Oversee switchgear, transformer, and transformerless substation designs, ensuring proper ratings and safety clearances.
- Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, and local standards; lead documentation, commissioning tests, and as built deliverables.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in electrical power systems design for utilities or industrial facilities.
- Expertise in ETAP, PSS/E, MATLAB/Simulink; proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD tools.
- Strong knowledge of protective relaying, relay coordination, IEC 61850, and IEEE standards.
- Experience with HV/LV substations, switchgear design, transformers, and SCADA integration.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills; ability to lead cross functional teams.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly preferred; U.S. work authorization required.
- Willingness to travel to client sites and commissioning locations as needed.
