NovaGrid Energy is seeking a Senior Electrical Power Systems Engineer to join our Houston team. You will lead design, modeling, and optimization of complex power systems for utilities, industrial clients, and renewable projects. This role combines technical excellence with collaborative leadership to deliver reliable, compliant, and scalable energy solutions.
In this role, you will work across disciplines to analyze and improve transmission and distribution networks, integrate renewables, and support project execution from concept to commissioning. Responsibility
- Lead and perform power system studies (load flow, short-circuit, stability, protection coordination) using industry tools.
- Model, simulate, and optimize electrical networks for generation, transmission, and distribution projects.
- Develop technical specifications and design drawings for equipment and protection schemes.
- Coordinate with internal teams, clients, and contractors during front-end and detailed design, procurement, and commissioning.
- Review vendor proposals, perform techno-economic analyses, and ensure compliance with applicable standards (IEEE, NEC, NERC CIP).
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on complex projects.
- Support field commissioning, testing, and performance validation of power systems.
- Prepare clear, data-driven reports and presentations for stakeholders.
Qualification
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering; Master's degree preferred
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in electrical power systems, with utility, industrial, or renewable projects
- Proficiency in ETAP, SKM, PSS/E, PSCAD, or similar power system analysis tools; MATLAB/Python skills beneficial
- Strong knowledge of grid codes, protection design, and coordination (IEEE, IEC, NEC, NERC CIP)
- Familiarity with design standards, protection schemes, and control systems
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility is preferred
- Excellent communication, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to travel as needed for project support
