Lumina Research Institute seeks a Senior Experimental Physicist specializing in quantum optics to join our Boston-based team. This role leads hands-on experiments, designs and optimizes optical setups, and drives results from bench to publication. You will collaborate with theorists and engineers to translate ambitious ideas into rigorous experiments, mentor junior scientists, and contribute to strategic research programs with impact across quantum information science and precision metrology.

Responsibility
- Lead the design, assembly, and alignment of quantum optics experiments and ultrafast photonics setups.
- Develop robust measurement protocols, data acquisition pipelines, and statistical analysis workflows.
- Characterize optical components, cryogenic systems, and detectors; ensure high-precision calibrations.
- Collaborate with theorists and engineers to translate research ideas into testable experiments.
- Mentor graduate students and postdocs; supervise technicians; manage project timelines.
- Summarize findings in internal reports and prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
- Present results at conferences and contribute to grant proposals.
Qualification
- PhD in Physics or a closely related field, with a strong record in experimental quantum optics.
- 5+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in quantum optics, ultrafast lasers, or cryogenic systems.
- Proficiency with data analysis using Python (NumPy/SciPy) and MATLAB; experience with LabVIEW is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience with high-precision measurements, noise reduction, and systematic error analysis.
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to mentor and collaborate across disciplines.
- Ability to manage complex equipment inventories, safety compliance, and project timelines.
- Eligibility to work in the United States or valid work authorization.
