Responsibility

  • Lead stock assessments and population dynamics analyses to inform harvest strategies and conservation measures.
  • Design and execute field sampling, tagging, and monitoring programs with rigorous QA/QC protocols.
  • Analyze large datasets using R and Python; translate findings into clear, actionable reports for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with agencies, tribes, and industry to develop science-based management recommendations.
  • Develop and present annual work plans, budgets, and performance metrics for related projects.
  • Publish results in peer-reviewed outlets and present to technical audiences.
  • Mentor junior staff and student researchers; contribute to grant writing and proposal development.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and ethical standards; support permitting processes as needed.

Qualification

  • Master's degree (or PhD) in Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, Ecology, or related field.
  • 5+ years of directly relevant experience in stock assessment, fisheries science, or ecosystem-based management.
  • Strong proficiency in statistical analysis using R; experience with Python and GIS a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement field programs; experience with sampling design and QA/QC.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to translate complex science for diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of U.S. and/or regional fishery regulations and management processes.
  • Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and with external partners; willingness to travel.
