NovaPetro Energy is seeking a Senior Fossil Energy Engineer to lead design and optimization of oil, gas and coal-based power projects. This role centers on safety, reliability, and environmental compliance. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to advance fossil energy assets across lifecycle stages from front-end engineering to commissioning and operations.
Location: Houston, TX. This position offers a hybrid work option with periodic site visits to project sites.

Responsibility
- Lead design and optimization of fossil energy facilities including power generation and process systems.
- Develop and review P&IDs, piping specs, and process simulations to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations.
- Collaborate with engineering, safety, and field teams to manage CAPEX/OPEX and project schedules.
- Perform risk assessments, HAZOPs, and root cause analyses; implement mitigations.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and industry standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and support talent development and knowledge transfer.
- Drive initiatives in reliability, maintenance optimization, and digital twin / data analytics integration.
- Provide technical leadership during commissioning, start-up, and operation phases.
Qualification
- BS in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering (MS preferred).
- 8+ years in fossil energy project engineering, with upstream/downstream experience.
- Strong knowledge of process simulation tools (Aspen HYSYS/PRO/others), piping design standards (ASME), and safety regimes (HAZOP).
- Proven project management experience; ability to manage budgets, schedules, and cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Willingness to travel for site visits and project milestones; eligibility to work in the United States.
