Atlas Energy Group is seeking a Senior Fossil Energy Project Engineer to lead complex thermal and chemical processing projects within our Houston operations. This is a high-visibility role that blends engineering excellence with strategic project leadership, safety, and regulatory compliance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize fossil energy systems, improve asset reliability, and deliver on ambitious performance targets.

We offer a competitive compensation package, comprehensive benefits, and a path to grow into a senior leadership role within a premier energy company focused on responsible and efficient fossil energy operations.

Responsibility

  • Lead design, execution, and commissioning of fossil energy projects from concept through start-up, ensuring alignment with schedule, budget, and safety standards.
  • Develop and optimize process simulations, PFDs, heat and mass balances, and equipment specs to improve plant performance and reliability.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams (process, mechanical, electrical, control systems) and manage external vendors, EPCs, and consultancies.
  • Drive HSE compliance, permit applications, and regulatory reporting in line with DOE, EPA, and local requirements.
  • Monitor project performance using earned value management, risk registers, and KPI dashboards; implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Lead commissioning and start-up activities, troubleshoot performance gaps, and ensure smooth handover to operations.
  • Mentor junior engineers, promote a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Energy Engineering; Master's preferred.
  • Minimum 8-10 years in fossil energy projects (power generation, refinery, gas processing, or similar).
  • Strong proficiency in process simulation (Aspen Plus/HYSYS), PFDs, P&IDs, heat integration, and equipment sizing.
  • Experience with HSE standards, permitting, environmental compliance, and regulatory audits.
  • Proven track record delivering large-scale projects on time and within budget; PMP or equivalent certification is a plus.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25 percent as needed; relocation support available.
