TerraFoss Energy Partners is seeking a highly skilled Senior Fossil Energy Project Engineer to lead the design, execution, and optimization of large-scale fossil energy projects in our Houston portfolio. This role combines deep technical proficiency with strategic insight to deliver safe, compliant, and economically sound capital programs across refineries, gas processing, and CCS initiatives.
Based in Houston, you will collaborate with engineering, operations, procurement, and regulatory teams to drive project success from FEED through commissioning, ensuring delivery on time and within budget while meeting stringent safety and environmental standards.
Responsibility
- Lead Feasibility Studies and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) activities for large-scale fossil energy projects, including refineries, gas processing, and carbon capture initiatives.
- Develop project execution plans, budgets, schedules, and risk registers; monitor performance with KPIs and dashboards.
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning to ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
- Oversee compliance with HSE and regulatory requirements; champion process safety and risk assessment practices.
- Partner with commercial and asset teams to optimize CAPEX/OPEX, perform economic evaluations, and support project financing discussions.
- Lead vendor selection, contract strategy, and supplier management; negotiate major engineering and construction contracts.
- Ensure design for manufacturability and operability; implement value engineering and lifecycle cost analysis.
- Mentor junior engineers; lead technical reviews, design verifications, and project close-out with lessons learned.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 8-12 years of experience in fossil energy projects (refining, gas processing, power generation) with FEED/EPCM or project management experience.
- Proven experience with HSE, process safety management, and compliance in heavy industry settings.
- Strong proficiency in project controls, scheduling (e.g., Primavera P6), cost estimation, and risk management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex contracts (EPC, LSTK, or similar).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; fluency in English; ability to present to executives and regulators.
- Knowledge of carbon capture and storage (CCS) concepts and energy transition considerations is a plus.
- Travel up to 20-30% typical for project lifecycle needs.
