Join a leading energy innovator as a Senior Fossil Energy Project Engineer based in Houston. This role drives technical excellence across refining, gas processing, and power generation systems, with a strong emphasis on safety, reliability, and low-emission operation. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, interface with external partners, and deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
As a senior member of the team, you will lead complex, front-end to execution projects, influence technical decisions, and mentor junior engineers to foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Responsibility
- Lead multi-discipline project teams to deliver fossil energy solutions from concept through commissioning, ensuring safety, reliability, and cost control.
- Develop and optimize process simulations, mass and energy balances, and equipment design in collaboration with process engineering.
- Manage vendor selection, contracts, and procurement for major equipment and specialty services.
- Perform HAZOP/HAZID, risk assessments, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct FEED studies and prepare detailed design packages for refining, petrochemical, or CCS projects.
- Support commissioning, start-up, and performance testing; monitor post-startup performance and implement optimization plans.
- Collaborate with health, safety, and environmental teams to ensure safe operations and continuous improvement across projects.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Energy Engineering; Master’s preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in fossil energy projects (refining, gas processing, power generation, CCS).
- Strong proficiency in process simulation tools (Aspen HYSYS/ Aspen Plus or CHEMCAD), PFD/P&ID development, and equipment design.
- Experience with HAZOP/HAZID, risk assessment, LOPA; familiarity with API 520/521, ASME B31.3, NFPA standards.
- Proven project management experience; PMP is a plus; ability to manage budgets and schedules across multiple projects.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and vendor management skills; capable of leading high-performing teams.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% as required by project needs.
