Job description
Join ST Engineering's Advanced Communications and Defence (ACD) division as a Senior FPGA Firmware Engineer. This role focuses on waveform-centric systems that enhance Singaporeâs defence and security capabilities. You will design, implement, verify, and optimize FPGA firmware for real-time signal processing, high-speed interfaces, and DSP workloads. You will collaborate with hardware engineers, software teams, and systems engineers to deliver robust, scalable solutions across the product lifecycle.
In this position, youâll translate system requirements into efficient FPGA firmware, write clean, testable code, and maintain comprehensive design documentation. Youâll be responsible for performance tuning, resource optimization, and ensuring firmware meets stringent reliability and security requirements for defense applications. You will participate in design reviews, develop test benches, and create automated validation tests to validate functionality from simulation through integration and field deployment. Youâll also investigate and resolve issues that span hardware and software boundaries and support production readiness and sustainment.
We seek a hands-on engineer with a strong background in digital design, Verilog/VHDL, and FPGA toolchains (e.g., Xilinx/Intel). If youâre passionate about waveform processing, enjoy solving challenging problems, and want to contribute to mission-critical systems, youâll feel at home in ST Engineeringâs dynamic team.
Responsibility
- Design, implement, verify, and optimize FPGA firmware for waveform-centric signal processing and real-time data paths.
- Translate system-level requirements into robust HDL designs and test benches; collaborate with hardware and software teams.
- Develop and maintain efficient verification strategies, including simulation, emulation, and on-target tests.
- Tune performance, power, and resource usage to meet stringent defense-grade specifications.
- Integrate with DSP algorithms and high-speed interfaces (e.g., PCIe, SERDES, JESD204B/C).
- Participate in design reviews, write clear documentation, and mentor junior engineers.
- Support integration, debugging, field deployment, and post-release maintenance.
Qualification
- Bachelorâs or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of FPGA firmware design and development experience in defense or mission-critical environments.
- Strong proficiency in HDL (Verilog/SystemVerilog and VHDL) and FPGA toolchains (Xilinx or Intel/Altera).
- Experience with DSP concepts, fixed-point arithmetic, and real-time processing.
- Familiarity with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, SerDes, JESD204B/C) and embedded software basics.
- Proven debugging, problem-solving, and design-for-test skills; ability to write automation and test scripts.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams; security-conscious mindset.
