The Heritage Institute of History seeks a dynamic Historian and Researcher to advance public scholarship and scholarly rigor across our programs in archives, teaching, and digital exhibits. This full-time role blends rigorous historical research with public-facing engagement, supporting our mission to make history accessible and impactful.
As a key member of our research team, you will collaborate with curators, educators, and digital specialists to develop compelling narratives, curate primary source materials, and contribute to exhibitions and grant-funded projects.
We value interdisciplinary approaches and strong writing skills, experience with primary sources, and a demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences.
Responsibility
- Conduct in-depth archival and primary-source research to support scholarly projects and exhibits.
- Develop original historical topics and synthesize findings into reports, publications, and web content.
- Collaborate with curators, educators, and digital humanities staff to design engaging interpretive materials.
- Draft scholarly articles and grant proposals; assist with manuscript preparation and editorial reviews.
- Deliver public talks, lectures, and classroom sessions for diverse audiences.
- Contribute to digital exhibits, online collections, and timeline projects.
- Mentor graduate students or interns and participate in peer-review activities.
- Maintain meticulous source documentation and adhere to metadata and ethical standards.
Qualification
- Master’s degree in History or a closely related field; PhD preferred.
- Demonstrated research excellence with publications, presentations, or notable projects.
- Strong writing and editing skills with ability to translate complex ideas for varied audiences.
- Experience with archival repositories, primary sources, and bibliographic standards.
- Teaching or public-speaking experience; ability to design engaging learning experiences.
- Familiarity with digital humanities tools, data management, and website content development.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively in cross-disciplinary teams.
