What you'll do:

Responsibility

  • Assess, analyze, and underwrite a diverse book of commercial lines risks, with emphasis on property, liability, and casualty coverage.
  • Evaluate financial statements, loss history, and exposure data to determine risk pricing and policy terms.
  • Collaborate with brokers, actuaries, and claims teams to structure competitive and sustainable coverage.
  • Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines, rating plans, and risk selection criteria.
  • Review and issue policy endorsements and conditions ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, manage renewal strategies, and adjust terms based on trend data.
  • Mentor junior underwriters, provide guidance on complex cases, and share best practices.
  • Leverage data analytics and underwriting systems to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Economics, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional designations (AU, CPCU) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of commercial lines underwriting experience, with a track record of profitable book growth.
  • Strong knowledge of property, casualty, & liability products; familiarity with industry rating plans.
  • Analytical mindset with proficiency in spreadsheets, data tools, and underwriting software.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills; ability to build trusted relationships with brokers and clients.
  • Ability to interpret financial statements and loss development to support pricing decisions.
  • Licenses/certifications as required by state regulations; willingness to obtain additional licensure as needed.
