Capstone News Network is seeking an accomplished Senior Journalist to lead investigative reporting and shape our NYC coverage. This role blends rigorous storytelling with data-driven inquiry to deliver high-impact stories across digital and print platforms.
Based in our New York City bureau, you will work closely with editors, photographers, and fellow reporters to uncover the facts, verify information, and craft compelling narratives that inform the public.

Responsibility
- Lead end-to-end investigative and long-form stories for multiple platforms, from concept to publication.
- Develop story ideas, design research plans, and coordinate with editors and data journalists.
- Conduct in-depth interviews, field reporting, data analysis, and document reviews.
- Verify facts, check sources for reliability, and ensure ethical journalism standards are met.
- Collaborate with editors, photo/video teams, and digital editors to produce engaging, accurate content.
- Meet tight deadlines and manage multiple reporting projects simultaneously.
- Mentor junior reporters and contribute to newsroom training and style guidelines.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- 6+ years of reporting experience, including investigative work.
- Strong written English, editing, and storytelling skills; mastery of AP style.
- Proficiency in data journalism, spreadsheet analysis, and using public records or FOIA requests.
- Excellent interviewing, sourcing, and fact-checking abilities; high ethical standards.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage deadlines, and adapt to changing newsroom priorities.
- Experience with multimedia storytelling and digital audience engagement is a plus.
