Job description

NovaLex Legal Consulting is seeking a seasoned Legal Consultant to join our New York office. This role delivers strategic, practical legal guidance to multinational clients on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and complex commercial matters. You will partner with clients across industries to implement compliant, scalable solutions that support growth while reducing risk.

In this client-facing role, you will lead engagements, draft and negotiate critical agreements, and shape proactive compliance programs in areas such as data privacy, anti-corruption, sanctions, and cross-border transactions.

Responsibility

  • Provide strategic legal counsel on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management for mid-to-large cap clients.
  • Lead and manage client engagements, including scoping, project plans, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements and internal policies.
  • Develop and implement robust compliance programs (data privacy, AML/KYC, sanctions) tailored to client needs.
  • Conduct regulatory risk assessments, due diligence, and remediation plans.
  • Advise on cross-border matters, vendor contracts, and dispute avoidance strategies.
  • Deliver training and practical guidance to client teams on regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate legal risk into actionable business solutions.

Qualification

  • Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree and active bar admission in New York or ability to obtain.
  • Minimum 5 years of corporate/commercial law or regulatory compliance experience in a law firm or in-house environment.
  • Strong knowledge of data privacy (e.g., GDPR/CCPA), AML/KYC, anti-corruption, and sanctions regimes.
  • Proven ability to manage complex client engagements and lead teams of junior associates.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills with a client-first mindset.
  • Experience advising on cross-border matters and multi-jurisdictional issues is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, matrixed environment; strong project management skills.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages a plus.
