Job description
Join ApexMotion Engineering as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer and contribute to cutting-edge product development for industrial applications. Based in Detroit, MI, you will drive mechanical architecture, select materials and processes, and ensure designs meet performance, cost, and manufacturability targets.
We seek a hands-on engineer who combines strong fundamentals with pragmatic problem solving, delivering robust solutions from concept to production while collaborating with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
Responsibility
- Lead the mechanical design lifecycle for new products from concept through production release, ensuring performance, reliability, and manufacturability goals are met.
- Perform CAD modeling, tolerance analysis, and design optimization using industry-standard tools (SolidWorks or Creo).
- Conduct DFMEA, design for assembly, and reliability assessments to mitigate risk and improve product quality.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless integration and manufacturability.
- Develop and maintain GD&T documentation, drawings, and bill of materials with accuracy and clarity.
- Validate designs through prototyping, testing, data analysis, and validation plans, then drive design changes to meet targets.
- Support field issue resolution with root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualification
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; 5+ years of hands-on design experience in industrial or consumer products.
- Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks or Creo). Experience with FEA/thermal analysis is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, dimensional management, tolerance stack-ups, and design for manufacturability.
- Experience with DFMEA, design for assembly, prototype development, and test method validation.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and project-management skills; proven ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated problem-solving mindset, structured debugging, and data-driven decision making; occasional travel up to 10% may be required.
