Job description

Google is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Debug project in Singapore. In this role you will design, build, and qualify mechanical solutions that automate and safeguard mosquito-control systems. You will blend hands on hardware debugging with system level thinking to deliver reliable, field ready equipment. You will work across multidisciplinary teams to translate product requirements into robust, manufacturable designs that perform in challenging environments. This position offers meaningful impact, excellent growth, and the opportunity to contribute to global health initiatives through automation.

As part of the Debug team you will own the end to end mechanical lifecycle from concept through qualification. Responsibilities include creating high quality CAD models and drawings, selecting materials for durability, performing tolerance analyses, and coordinating prototyping and testing. You will collaborate with software, electrical, and firmware engineers to integrate sensors, actuators, and control logic, ensuring seamless operation of the system. You will lead risk assessments, apply design for manufacturability and design for test principles, and document results for cross functional teams and regulatory readiness.

Google values hands on problem solving and data driven decision making. You will design for reliability and serviceability, implement robust test plans, and execute environmental and field tests to validate performance. You will analyze test data, perform root cause investigations, and iterate designs quickly based on findings. The role requires clear communication, strong ownership, and a collaborative mindset in a fast paced, inclusive environment located in Singapore.

Join Google and enjoy world class benefits, professional development opportunities, and the chance to work on a purpose driven project that improves public health outcomes.

Responsibility

  • Lead mechanical design and debugging for automated mosquito-control systems, including fault isolation and root cause analysis.
  • Develop and test prototypes, lead validation tests, environmental stress testing, and drive design iterations.
  • Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation for scalable production.
  • Collaborate with software, electrical, and firmware engineers to integrate sensors, actuators, and control software.
  • Conduct design for manufacturability and design for test, and work with suppliers to optimize cost and quality.
  • Perform risk assessments, reliability analyses (FMEA), and safety reviews to ensure mission critical operation.
  • Document findings, create technical reports and training material, and support manufacturing transfer and regulatory readiness.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 5+ years in automated hardware development or debugging.
  • Strong CAD proficiency (SolidWorks or Creo), 3D printing, rapid prototyping, and adherence to drawing standards.
  • Experience with sensors, actuators, embedded controllers, and basic control systems; comfort with data acquisition.
  • Solid hands-on lab and field debugging experience with a proven track record of solving complex hardware issues.
  • Knowledge of tolerance analysis, design for manufacturability (DFx), FMEA, and design verification planning.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB or Python for data analysis and test automation; ability to translate test results into design decisions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to work with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.
