You will lead strategic mine design and optimization for open-pit and underground operations, driving safety, productivity, and cost performance. Responsibility
- Lead the end-to-end mine design and planning process for open-pit and underground operations, integrating geology, geotechnical, ventilation, and scheduling data.
- Develop and optimize short-term and long-term mining plans using industry-standard software (Deswik, Surpac, Vulcan) and robust data analytics.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards; lead risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with geology, metallurgy, and operations teams to model ore bodies, grade control, sequencing, and cut-off strategies.
- Prepare technical recommendations and participate in capital project evaluations, including cost estimation and risk analysis.
- Provide mentorship to junior engineers and coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Monitor key performance indicators, identify optimization opportunities, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, productivity, and cost efficiency.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive mining engineering experience, with open-pit and underground exposure.
- Strong knowledge of rock mechanics, geotechnical risk assessment, mine design principles, and ventilation planning.
- Proficiency with mining software (Surpac, Vulcan, Deswik, AutoCAD) and data tools (Excel, macros).
- Demonstrated safety leadership with experience implementing ISO 45001 or equivalent frameworks.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills; able to present complex data to executives and field teams.
- Right to work in Australia and willingness to work FIFO or in local rosters as required.
